Experiencing a cardiac event, receiving a new diagnosis of heart disease, or learning you have risk factors can be overwhelming for both patients and their caregivers. The Thompson Okanagan Rehabilitation for Cardiac Health (T.O.R.C.H.) program offers a comprehensive approach for clients to understand their cardiovascular health, explore the factors that influence it, and participate in safe, supervised exercise to rebuild confidence and quality of life. Research shows that engaging in cardiac rehabilitation can significantly reduce morbidity and mortality for up to 14 years after completion of the program.
Timely Access Cardiac Rehab
The Shuswap Cardiac Society aims to provide the community with timely access to a comprehensive, evidence-based cardiac rehab program. Our dedicated team follows peer-reviewed research to determine the most effective “dose” of cardiac rehab, using these guidelines to ensure that every individual receives the highest quality care. Our program combines multidisciplinary education sessions on key factors for regaining and maintaining heart health with supervised exercise led by a certified kinesiologist. We strive to offer a holistic, flexible program that supports both individuals and their caregivers throughout recovery—while removing barriers to participation.
Before the Shuswap Cardiac Society existed, people had to travel to Kelowna or Kamloops several times a week to access this kind of care. Now, with a local cardiac rehab program, individuals are far more likely to participate—improving not only their own health, but the health of our entire community.
